General Risks Across Non-Surgical Treatments
Most non-surgical treatments involve little to no downtime, but you may notice some short-term changes following your procedure. It is not uncommon to experience mild redness, swelling or tenderness in the treated area, which usually resolves quickly. Bruising can occasionally occur, and some treatments may leave the skin feeling temporarily uneven or sensitive. In rare cases, allergic reactions or unexpected responses may develop. During your consultation, our clinical team will discuss the likelihood of these side effects in relation to your chosen treatment and provide aftercare guidance to help reduce any complications.
Treatment-Specific Risks
Wrinkle Treatment
These treatments are generally well tolerated, though temporary redness, swelling or bruising at the injection site can occur. Some people experience a mild headache afterwards. In rare cases, the product may cause temporary eyelid or eyebrow drooping, or mild asymmetry if the product settles unevenly.
Volume Enhancement
(including Lip Enhancement, Tear Trough and Skin Hydration treatments)
Product may cause swelling, redness or tenderness in the treated area. Small lumps may occasionally form under the skin, and bruising can develop at the injection sites. Infection is possible but uncommon. A rare but serious complication known as vascular occlusion can occur if the filler enters a blood vessel; this requires urgent medical attention, which our team is trained to recognise and manage.
Skin Treatments
(such as Chemical Peels, Skin Needling, PRP, Rejuran, Exosomes, HydraFacial and LED)
Skin-focused treatments can sometimes lead to temporary redness, swelling or sensitivity in the days following your session. Some procedures, such as chemical peels, may cause the skin to flake or peel as part of the renewal process. There is also a possibility of changes in pigmentation, particularly with deeper peels or more intensive treatments. Infection is rare, but it can occur if the skin barrier is compromised.
Laser and Energy-Based Devices
(including CO2 Laser, PicoSure Pro, Excel V+, Ultraformer MPT, Morpheus8 and AviClear)
These treatments may leave the skin feeling warm, red or slightly swollen for a short period. In most cases, this settles quickly. Sun sensitivity is common after laser therapy, so careful aftercare is essential. There is a very small risk of pigmentation changes, blistering or scarring, though these outcomes are uncommon when treatments are performed under proper medical guidance.
Hair Restoration Treatments
(such as Factor 4 and Hair Exosomes)
Hair restoration procedures can result in tenderness or bruising at the injection sites. Some clients experience mild swelling or a temporary increase in shedding before regrowth begins, which is a normal part of the hair cycle. Rarely, infection can occur at the sites where injections are made.
Body Treatments
(including BodyTite, FaceTite, Ultraformer Skin Tightening, TruBody Muscle Toning and Contouring)
Body treatments may leave the treated area feeling tender, swollen or temporarily uneven in texture. Some people experience mild redness, bruising or numbness that resolves over time. Rare complications include burns, scarring or prolonged changes in sensation, though these are very uncommon when procedures are carried out by trained professionals using approved technologies.
Allergic Reactions
While uncommon, allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to ingredients used in non-surgical treatments can occur. Please share any allergies or relevant medical history with your practitioner to ensure the safest, most tailored care.
How We Minimise Risks
Every treatment at Ascension begins with a thorough consultation. This allows us to assess your medical history, aesthetic goals and individual risk factors before recommending a personalised treatment plan. We use advanced medical technologies under strict safety protocols, and all treatments are performed by experienced doctors, nurses and dermal clinicians. After your procedure, you will receive detailed aftercare instructions and have direct access to our team should you have any concerns.
Important To Note
Treatment outcomes are individual and may vary. With some treatments, there is a possibility of asymmetry, over- or under-correction, or irregularity, which may require further refinement. Any patient results shown in visual materials or discussed during consultation reflect individual cases, and outcomes depend on personal anatomy, product selection, and treatment goals.
While we take every precaution, no medical procedure is entirely without risk. This information is provided to help you understand the potential risks, side effects and complications associated with non-surgical treatments. It is not a substitute for a personalised consultation, where our clinicians will guide you through the risks, benefits and expected outcomes specific to your needs.
If you experience any unexpected reactions or complications, we recommend contacting your treating practitioner without delay. For urgent concerns, please seek immediate medical attention.
