Pigmentation Peels Brisbane

Cosmelan® and Dermamelan® are clinical depigmentation treatments designed to treat pigmentation caused by sun exposure, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and melasma. They can be used safely on all skin types, including darker complexions. They are safe and effective to be performed all year round and most patients only require one treatment.

Our exceptional experience with non-invasive treatments

At Ascension, we perform effective, non-invasive treatments that target a variety of skin concerns. Each bringing our own unique experience to the clinic before being trained by Dr. Scott Allison, our team holds a high standard of care and will understand the individual needs of your skin.

“Pigmentation peels are effective in treating melasma and pigmentation. However, it is important that treatment be performed under the supervision of a Cosmetic Physician or Dermatologist, as if performed incorrectly and without proper skin preparation, they can make pigmentation worse.” – Dr. Scott Allison.

Cosmelan® and Dermamelan® are used worldwide and are one of the most effective treatments for pigmentation. Dermamelan® is a more potent treatment and can only be performed by a Doctor. We will advise if this level of treatment is suitable at your consultation.

Benefits of Pigmentation Peels

EXPECTATIONS AND OUTCOMES

Melasma is an inflammatory condition that sits deep in our dermal layers. This is usually exacerbated by internal factors and is not something that can be completely removed topically. Cosmelan® and Dermamelan® can certainly help to improve the appearance of melasma but it is not a complete fix. Other factors can be addressed upon consultation and the correct plan can be formulated for each individual as no two skins are the same.

What is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation is a common skin condition of increased melanin (pigment) in the skin that presents as darkness and uneven skin tone. It is the most common skin complaint in Australia and can contribute to the appearance of ageing in the skin.

The mechanism for this increase in dermal melanin can be driven by a number of factors. These include sun exposure, hormonal changes (contraception, pregnancy, thyroid conditions), genetic factors (common in darker skin types) and following inflammation.

Pricing

Pricing for Pigmentation Peels varies based on individual needs, as the required dosages differ. Prices start at $1500.

Suitable candidates for the treatment

To assess your suitability, our experienced team will take a look at your pigmentation and determine your skin’s needs. We will also discuss your personal concerns, desired results and expectations during your consultation.

Pigmentation peels can be a suitable treatment option for many candidates, but may not be suitable for those with rosacea or inflammatory skin conditions that are not adequately controlled, or those who are taking acne medication. Candidates who are pregnant or breastfeeding may also not be suitable for the treatment.

Possible side effects

Side effects after pigmentation peels are rare, and can be prevented by performing the treatment on suitable candidates, correctly performing the treatment and implementing some aftercare steps. Side effects can include mild to moderate redness, mild swelling, itchiness or irritation, a feeling of tightness, prolonged peeling, allergic reactions, and rebound pigmentation.
