What is AviClear?
Unlike traditional medications and light therapies, AviClear utilises a targeted laser approach to address the root cause of breakouts: the sebaceous glands. This helps reduce the overproduction of sebum, the oily substance that can clog pores and lead to acne breakouts.
Many acne sufferers seek treatments such as chemical peels, prescription topicals, or oral medications, which often have harmful side effects. Moreover, many individuals cannot use these treatments due to skin tone, age, fertility concerns, or other medical issues. AviClear offers a promising alternative for patients who have previously tried Vitamin A tablets or prescription antibiotics and desire a less invasive solution for persistent symptoms.
By addressing the root cause of acne, AviClear Laser holds promise for achieving long-term results. This new treatment in Australia provides a safe and potentially long-lasting solution for those hoping to achieve clearer skin.

About the AviClear Laser treatment
How it works
AviClear takes a revolutionary approach to acne treatment, unlike topical medications or broad-spectrum light therapies.
This treatment uses a precise laser wavelength (1726 nm) that bypasses the surface of your skin and reaches the deeper-lying sebaceous glands. Unlike broader light therapies, this targeted approach minimises unnecessary exposure to other skin tissues.
Once the laser light reaches the sebaceous glands, it’s absorbed by the tissue. This triggers a gentle heating effect that doesn’t damage the glands but helps regulate their activity.
By downregulating sebum production, AviClear Laser helps prevent future breakouts at the source. This targeted approach holds promise for achieving long-term results.
Benefits of AviClear
This latest revolution in laser technology offers a multitude of benefits for those looking to clear up acne.
Here’s how AviClear can transform your complexion:
- Reduced breakouts: Experience a significant improvement in acne severity within weeks. Studies suggest a majority of patients see at least half of their acne resolved within three months.
- Reduced redness and inflammation: By regulating sebum production, AviClear Laser can significantly reduce redness and inflammation, revealing a calmer, more even-toned complexion.
- Safe for everyone: AviClear is the only laser treatment that delivers results for all severities of acne, in all skin types.
- Improved skin texture: This treatment helps refine your pores and normalise oil production, resulting in a smoother, more refined texture for a healthy, youthful appearance.
- Enhanced clarity and radiance: With less inflammation and reduced blemish visibility, your skin will naturally appear brighter and more radiant.
Are AviClear treatments painful?
Many people considering acne treatment worry about discomfort. AviClear provides a tolerable experience for patients seeking clearer skin.
Clinical studies suggest that this treatment is well-managed, with most patients reporting minimal discomfort during the treatment. The AviClear laser is equipped with built-in cooling technology, which helps further minimise any potential discomfort during the procedure.
You can always discuss pain management options with our clinical team during your consultation.
How many treatments are needed?
The number of AviClear treatments you’ll need depends on the severity of your acne and your desired results.
Most patients achieve significant improvement with a series of three AviClear treatments, spaced 3-4 weeks apart. This allows time for your skin to respond to the treatment and ensures optimal results.
Our dermatologist and dermal clinician will personalise your treatment plan based on your unique needs. Factors like the severity of your acne and your skin type will be considered when determining the ideal number of treatments.
The initial AviClear treatment series addresses current breakouts and aims for long-term prevention.
However, some patients may benefit from occasional maintenance sessions to sustain the results. These treatments can be spaced further apart, typically every 6-12 months, depending on your individual response.
During your acne consultation, discuss your desired outcome with our Acne Specialist Dermatologist Dr. Byrom and the Ascension team so they can assess your condition and provide you with a tailored treatment plan to achieve your clear skin goals.
Pricing
At Ascension, our treatment costs can depend on your total treatment time, number of treatment areas and number of sessions you may need. Pricing starts from $1,000 per treatment.
Suitable candidates for AviClear
AviClear suits adolescents and adult patients with mild, moderate or severe acne.
If you’re experiencing persistent acne breakouts, including inflammatory pimples, papules, and pustules, AviClear Laser can be a great option. Targeting the root cause of breakouts can help address your current acne and prevent future flare-ups.
Unlike some acne treatments, AviClear’s targeted laser technology is suitable for a wide range of skin tones and types. This makes it a versatile option for a broader range of patients who are looking for effective acne solutions, with no harmful side effects.
The AviClear treatment
Your journey to clearer skin starts with a personalised acne consultation with your Dermal Clinician. They’ll discuss your acne concerns, medical history, and desired outcomes. This allows them to tailor an AviClear treatment plan specifically for you and set realistic expectations.
Your Dermal Clinician will also assess your skin type and severity of acne to determine if AviClear Laser is the right treatment for you. Open communication about any questions or concerns is encouraged during this process.
On the day of the treatment, your clinician will thoroughly cleanse your skin to ensure a smooth and effective treatment. They’ll also address any anxieties you might have and make sure you feel comfortable throughout the process.
Each AviClear session typically takes around 30 to 60 minutes, making it a convenient option for those with busy schedules.
AviClear is an effective solution to achieve clearer skin in as little as three treatments. With continued treatment, you’ll gradually notice a reduction in breakouts and acne severity.

Recovery and aftercare
Recovery after AviClear is refreshingly simple. One of the significant benefits of AviClear Laser is the lack of downtime associated with the treatment.
You should avoid excessive sun and heat exposure, as the treated skin can be sensitive after treatment. It will be essential to keep your skin clean and moisturised after treatment, and apply SPF 50+ daily. Our team can recommend products that are suitable for your skin type.
Avoid picking or scratching the skin in your treated area, to allow the skin to heal sufficiently. You will need to avoid makeup, exfoliants and strong products, such as retinol products, for a set period of time after your treatment.
Possible side effects
During the treatment, you might experience a slight warming sensation or temporary redness in the treated areas. These effects are typically mild and usually subside within a few hours after the session.
Your skin might also be slightly more sensitive following the treatment, especially to sun exposure. In some cases, temporary inflammation may occur in the treated areas. There’s no need to worry as these side effects are usually short-lived and resolve on their own within a day or two.
Very rarely, some patients might experience temporary hyperpigmentation (darkening) or hypopigmentation (lightening) in the treated areas.
During your consultation, your clinician can discuss these potential side effects in more detail and address any specific concerns you may have. Don’t hesitate to contact your doctor if you have concerns after your treatment.
