What Is Rejuran? 4 Facts About This Skin Treatment

What Is Rejuran? 4 Facts About This Skin Treatment

Rejuran is a cosmetic skin treatment that uses polynucleotides (PN) — DNA fragments sourced from salmon — delivered into the dermis to support the skin’s natural repair processes. This page provides factual information about how the treatment works, what it may be used for, and what to expect during a session.

A consultation at Ascension Cosmetic Medicine is required before any treatment is offered, to assess individual suitability, discuss potential risks and benefits, and determine whether Rejuran or an alternative approach may be more appropriate for your circumstances.

Fact #1 – This treatment comes in different types

Rejuran is available in several formulations, each designed to address different skin concerns. The polynucleotides in each formulation are designed to support the skin’s natural collagen and elastin production and assist with the repair process over time.
The main formulations include:

  • Rejuran Healer — a general formulation used to address overall skin texture, hydration, and fine lines
  • Rejuran I — a formulation intended for use in the more delicate skin around the eyes, where it may be considered for fine lines and changes in skin quality in that area
  • Rejuran S — a formulation aimed at scar repair, including acne scars, which works by supporting collagen rebuilding and improving skin texture over time

Whether any particular formulation is appropriate for your skin concerns will be assessed during consultation. Not every formulation will be suitable for every individual.

Fact #2 – Rejuran helps repair the skin from within

Collagen gives skin its firmness, while elastin keeps it flexible. Over time, age, sun exposure, and environmental stress lower the levels of both, which may contribute to the appearance of fine lines and changes in skin texture.

Rejuran’s polynucleotide component is designed to support the skin’s own collagen and elastin production, which may assist in altering skin structure and texture over a course of treatment. Individual results vary.

Rejuran may be considered in combination with other treatments such as microneedling or fractional laser in some cases, which may allow the polynucleotides to reach deeper skin layers. Your clinician will discuss whether a combination approach is appropriate for you.

Results from a course of treatment develop gradually over time. The timeframe and extent of results varies between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.

Fact #3 – It may be considered for a range of skin concerns

Depending on individual assessment, Rejuran may be considered for the following concerns:

  • Fine lines and early wrinkles — Rejuran may help soften the appearance of fine lines and improve skin surface texture
  • Acne scars — Rejuran may be considered for shallow acne scars and uneven texture; for deeper scarring, a combination approach involving microneedling or laser may be discussed
  • Enlarged pores and uneven texture — polynucleotide treatment may support improvements in skin texture and pore appearance over a course of treatment
  • Skin affected by sun exposure, environmental factors, or ageing — Rejuran may support overall skin quality in skin affected by cumulative environmental exposure
  • Recovery support — following treatments such as resurfacing lasers or skin peels, Rejuran may be considered as a supportive treatment to assist with the skin’s repair process; individual recovery varies
  • Skin maintenance — for some patients, Rejuran may be discussed as part of an ongoing approach to maintaining skin quality over time

Fact #4 – What to expect during a Rejuran session

A typical Rejuran session generally involves the following steps:

  • Preparation — a numbing cream is applied to the treatment area for approximately 20 to 30 minutes prior to treatment
  • The treatment — small amounts of Rejuran are placed into the dermis layer; some patients experience mild stinging or pressure during treatment, with sensitivity varying between individuals and across different areas of the face
  • After treatment — small visible bumps may appear at the treatment sites; these typically settle within a day. Mild redness or swelling may occur

Following treatment, avoiding strenuous exercise, saunas, hot showers, and alcohol for 24 hours is generally recommended to help minimise swelling.
