Jowls

Appearing as the sagging of the skin and tissues along the jawline, often creating a more prominent appearance of the lower cheeks, jowls are often caused by the natural ageing process but can be influenced by other factors. Jowls can be caused by a loss of skin elasticity, reduced muscle tone, genetics, excessive UV ray exposure, and lifestyle habits such as smoking.

Jowls can be treated with fat-targeting procedures, skin-tightening procedures and combination approaches, depending on each patient’s personal needs. With a personalised treatment plan, the appearance of jowls can be reduced with a suitable number of treatment sessions using the patient’s chosen method.

Recommended Treatments

To find the treatment that may work best for you, you can discuss your personal preferences and procedure goals during a consultation at Ascension.

The most suitable treatment method can depend on the condition of your jowls, your treatment goals and your personal suitability for each of the treatment methods. You’ll receive a personalised treatment plan, outlining the details of your treatment and any preparation or aftercare instructions. You might choose to combine different treatment methods for a comprehensive approach.

Jowls
Treatments

01  / FaceTite

Requiring a few small incisions, FaceTite uses radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL) to target unwanted fat and stimulate collagen and elastin production. The treatment method can be ideal for jowls as it allows for the fat to be removed and the skin to be tightened.

FaceTite can focus on the lower face, treating jowls, the cheeks, the jawline and the chin. Downtime is considered minimal, although some swelling and bruising is normal as the treatment does require incisions. Your personalised recovery instructions can help to reduce downtime.

02  /Thread Lifts

As a fast, minimally invasive alternative to a surgical facelift, thread lifts use dissolvable threads to lift the skin, achieving an instant lift. The threads are placed underneath the skin and gently pulled upwards, strategically placed in key locations.

A thread lift treatment can be tailored to specifically target jowls. As well as lifting excess and loose skin, the threads will promote collagen production once they dissolve, helping the skin to tighten. Treatments can take as little as 30 minutes and are associated with minimal downtime, with swelling and bruising subsiding over a few days after the treatment.

03  / Morpheus8 RF Needling

Morpheus8 uses a combination approach, combining microneedling with radio-frequency (RF) technology. Both the microneedling and RF technology help to stimulate the body’s healing response to produce more collagen and elastin.

The treatment can address skin laxity that can contribute to the appearance of jowls. A series of treatment sessions may achieve the best results, but it will depend on the level of skin laxity that will need to be treated. Since the increase of collagen and elastin occurs over time, results will appear gradually, with continued improvements after your final treatment.

04  / TruSculpt iD

Effectively targeting excess fat pockets and breaking down fat cells, TruSculpt iD delivers controlled levels of heat to the precise treatment areas. When focused on the jowls, the treatment can destroy fat cells, reducing their appearance. Once fat cells are destroyed, they are naturally eliminated by the body over time.

Some patients may need multiple treatment sessions, taking about 15 to 30 minutes. Your treatments will be personalised, tailored to your specific needs. Since TruSculpt iD treatments are non-surgical, they involve minimal to no downtime.

05  / Tixel Skin Tightening

As a heat-based treatment, Tixel Skin Tightening precisely uses pure radiated heat in a millisecond at a time, triggering the skin’s healing response. The increase of collagen and elastin as a result of the skin’s healing response being triggered can help to tighten the skin, improving the appearance of jowls.

Tixel is associated with minimal downtime, with some redness, heat and swelling noticed after treatment. Redness and heat should subside within hours after the treatment while minor swelling may last for a few days. Dry and flaky skin is also normal after treatment and can persist for up to seven to 10 days. The results of Tixel will be gradual, as the body’s healing response slowly works to tighten the skin over time.

06  /The Ascension Lift

As one of our bespoke Signature Treatment packages, The Ascension Lift comprehensively combines effective treatment methods that can reduce the appearance
of jowls.

The treatment can be personalised and typically takes about 80 minutes. Combining Morpheus8, Tixel Skin Tightening and Healite II, the treatment works to stimulate collagen and elastin production, tightening loose skin. Healite II can then reduce inflammation and redness that can be caused by the skin needling and laser, helping to soothe the skin at the end of your session.

With the bonus of Healite II, The Ascension Lift can be a suitable choice for those who may benefit from both Morpheus8 RF Needling and Tixel Skin Tightening to treat jowls. Healite II has additional benefits for your skin, reducing acne-causing bacteria, aiding in skin healing, and rejuvenating the skin, improving its overall appearance.
